Volleyball has always been my passion, but when a coach is so terrible that I am forced to leave my passion behind, it’s a massive red flag. My mental health deteriorated severely under this coach. After leaving the program, I underwent counseling for weeks due to the trauma she gave me. She used profanities throughout the season while attending a christian university, which does not set a good example whatsoever. Several of us athletes were forced to run until we vomited—one of which was forced to complete 1,085 burpees and 30 sprints in the course of an hour and a half, which I would consider physical abuse. She acted like she cared about our feelings, but every time I went to her to question my ability, her response was so vague that I knew she didn’t care about me. I was recruited by a previous coach and thoroughly enjoyed my time with her, but I felt that if I had not already been on the team when Heinz was hired, she would not have kept me. I never felt wanted or needed by her, and she did not believe in me.
