Well, he's definitely a great defensive mind. However, I don't think he is that great of a head coach. Many of his interpersonal interactions come off as fake. In addition, he's not shy about letting you know who his favorites are.

Derek Mason is a great coach overall. Only critique I would give is for him to let his veteran players have more input into how things should go from a football perspective.

Great defensive mind at times but is indecisive on what and who he wants. Isn't a great judge of talent. Has trouble at times translating what he wants from the class to the grass.

Coach Mason comes off very honest, but has failed to be transparent in multiple situations leading players on with scholarship and showing tremendous preference among his players. Other than that he is a terrific defensive mind and a great teacher of the game.
