Collin Martin, the only openly gay male professional soccer player, speaks on being your authentic self on and off the field. On June 29, 2018, Martin came out publicly as gay. At the time, he was reported to be the only active male professional soccer player to be openly gay. Martin played multiple seasons at MLS Side DC United with no one knowing he was gay. Finally, when he was traded to Minnesota and given a “fresh start,” he announced publicly that he was gay at Minnesota United's pride night. Currently, Martin plays as a midfielder for San Diego Loyal in the USL Championship.
