Dick is the Athletic Director at Fremd High School in Palatine, IL. Unlike college coaches who want to recruit athletes to their team, athletic directors are unbiased and see the recruiting process from the perspective of someone who wants the best for their students. In this interview, David tells us of the good, bad, and ugly of the recruiting process, changes he'd like to see, and resources for young athletes.

What changes would you like to see in the recruiting process?
“I think a big question is the timing for coaches to talk with potential student-athletes. Give a clearer timetable for when coaches can speak with athletes.”

What pieces of information do you think high school athletes are missing most when navigating the recruiting process?
Being made aware of the time involved in the recruiting process.

What do you think are the most beneficial services provided by companies that support students in the recruiting process?
I think potential student-athletes are interested in the experience they are getting. So, I would say services should look at the facilities, post [about] what current athletes are experiencing, and life outside athletics.
