Texas Longhorns Head Baseball Coach Garrido Tribute

Save to my locker

Garrido is currently the head coach at the University of Texas. He has been in that position since 1997 and has guided the Longhorns to two national championships (2002, 2005). Prior to his tenure at UT, Garrido coached at San Francisco State, Cal Poly, two stints at Cal State Fullerton, and the University of Illinois. Garrido saw success at every stop during his coaching career, especially at Fullerton. With the Titans, Garrido won three national championships (1979, 1984, 1995). Garrido is one of only two coaches to lead multiple schools to national championships, and he is the only coach to lead teams to national championships in four different decades.

Additionally, Garrido holds a NCAA baseball record for most career wins as a coach with 1,950. He also has guided teams to a College World Series 15 times, was named National Coach of the Year five times, Regional Coach of the Year six times, and his teams have won league championships twenty times. Garrido is undoubtedly not even one of the greatest college baseball coaches of all time, but one of the greatest college coaches of all time.
