For the past 30 days, we have celebrated Hispanic Heritage month. Hispanic heritage is not just one race, language, or culture. It's a union of more than 20 countries, and it's a big part of American heritage and sports history. Some of America's top sports stars have Hispanic heritage:
- Ronald Acuna Jr. with the Atlanta Braves (MLB)
- Diana Turasi with Phoenix Mercury (WNBA)
- Kiko Alonso with the Buffalo Bills (NFL)
- Carmelo Anthony with the LA Lakers (NBA)
Not everyone can take a trip to a country with Hispanic heritage, but the culture is so powerful that its influence is everywhere. Although the month to observe Hispanic Heritage is coming to a close, we can always continue to celebrate.
How could you experience this great culture? Go eat at a Hispanic restaurant, listen to Spanish music, watch a Hispanic movie, or even go take a dance class rooted in Hispanic heritage. And, continue to support athletes of Hispanic heritage and the impact they've made in sports of all levels.
