Scott Westby: Admissions Representative

LRT Sports: How much does being an athlete affect the admissions process?

It has no bearing on an admission decision, or for the amount of material we ask of the student.

LRT Sports:  What are the qualities you look for when taking on a student-athlete?

In the admissions office, our purview is purely academic abilities. We will ask ourselves if we believe they will be a successful student on our campus?

LRT Sports: What will set a student-athlete’s application apart from the general applicants or other student-athletes?

Strong academic abilities.

LRT Sports: Does an early admission application carry more weight/have a different priority in your acceptance process?

Not for our institution.

LRT Sports: Would your institution recommend that a student-athlete come in for an interview? If so, when would you recommend they start this process?

Not for an interview (that is not a part of our admissions criteria), but they are definitely encouraged to take a tour of the campus for their own benefit of making the best college choice.

LRT Sports: What GPA/SAT/ACT would your institution recommend that a student-athlete shoot for?

LRT Sports: What percentage of student-athletes receive financial aid?

At our school, a 21+ACT means meeting our automatic admissions criteria.

LRT Sports: What percentage of student-athletes receive financial aid?

I don’t have that information.

LRT Sports: What is your institution’s policy on financial aid? Does it differ for scholar athletes?

Many variables at play, but mostly following the national FAFSA criteria.

LRT Sports: What is the best piece of advice you can give to a student-athlete who has your institution number one on their list?

Tour the campus, talk with our coaches, meet with a professor if you have a major in mind, apply as early as you can.

LRT Sports: What makes your scholar athletic stand out on campus?

(No answer.)
