LRT Sports: How much does being an athlete affect the admissions process?

The same admissions process is used for athletes and non-athletes applying to Longwood.

LRT Sports: What are the qualities you look for when taking on a student-athlete?

Good academic student to contribute both in the classroom and playing field. Someone ready and excited to experience all that Longwood has to offer.

LRT Sports: What will set a student-athlete’s application apart from the general applicants or other student-athletes?

In addition to course selection and grades, applicants can submit a personal statement to share how they can contribute to campus as a student.

LRT Sports: Does an early admission application carry more weight/have a different priority in your acceptance process?

The same criteria is used to evaluate Early Action (non-binding) and Regular Admission applicants. For the entering fall term, Early Action application deadline is December 1, and mid-February mails notification. For Regular Admission, application and academic documents must be received/postmarked by February 1 (fall term) or November 1 (spring term).

LRT Sports: Would your institution recommend that a student-athlete come in for an interview? If so, when would you recommend they start this process?

An interview is not required for the application process.

LRT Sports: What GPA/SAT/ACT would your institution recommend that a student-athlete shoot for? What percentage of student-athletes receive financial aid?

GPA and SAT midranges for all accepted students:

Midrange GPA: 3.08-3.79

Midrange SAT: 1010-1160

Midrange ACT: 19-25

* Some students were admitted with GPA and SATs above and below the midranges. In addition to cumulative GPA and test scores (e.g., SAT or ACT), class rank (if available), consistency and trend in grades, and course selection impact the evaluation process.

LRT Sports: What is the best way for student-athletes to start the financial aid process if they need financial aid?

Students can fill out the FAFSA starting Oct 1 at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The deadline for completion is March 1 for fall enrollment.

LRT Sports: What is your institution’s policy on financial aid? Does it differ for scholar-athletes?

Longwood is committed to helping students afford an education. Financial assistance is available based on submitting the Free Application For Federal Student Aid, FAFSA. Students can possibly receive a financial package including grants, loans & scholarships.

LRT Sports: What is the best piece of advice you can give to a student-athlete who has your institution number one on their list?

Visit the campus. In addition to talking with coaches, talk with the general student body about their academic and campus life experiences.

LRT Sports: What makes your athletic program stand out?

Commitment to student excellence both on the playing field and in the classroom. Being a part of Longwood is new experiences and time-honored traditions…….about a community that becomes family and a campus that becomes home.
