When college coaches ask you if you have any questions for them, the answer should always be “yes!” The college athlete experience will be unlike anything you've experienced in high school, and it's important to prepare yourself. Each division is different in terms of time commitment, competition level, and scholarship opportunities, so it's important to know what questions are helpful to ask coaches at each level. Here are 6 questions you should ask coaches at the DIII level before you commit:

- What does the team's 4-year plan look like?
- How big is the team, how many roster spots are open, and how many other potential recruits are there?
- What is the time commitment?
- What does a regular practice look like?
- Will I have to stay on campus over holiday breaks?
- What is the financial commitment, including apparel, backpacks, team shoes, travel outfits, etc.?
- How does the coach encourage academic success on the team?
- What financial aid opportunities are there for student athletes (because athletic scholarships are not available)?
